MUMBAI: Nakul Chopra, currently CEO of Publicis in India, has been promoted to take on additional responsibilities as CEO of Publicis South Asia.

In his new role, Nakul will oversee the Publicis network in Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. Simultaneously, Nakul has also been inducted to the global management board of the Publicis network. Here he will work closely with other colleagues and the global management in setting future directions and policies for the network.

Making this announcement, Publicis Asia CEO Matthew Godfrey said, "Given the importance of the South Asia region to both Publicis and our global clients, it's critical that we have the right structure to develop our brand in this geography. Nakul's proven ability to lead our existing agencies in India - Publicis India, Publicis Ambience, Publicis Modem and Publicis Dialog, makes him the perfect choice for this important role."

Commenting on his new role Nakul Chopra said, "That South Asia is quickly emerging as one of the world's most important markets is today an undeniable fact. I am very excited at being given the opportunity to drive this critical geography for the Publicis network. That I am the first Indian CEO on the Publicis global management board is testament to the focus we intend for India and South Asia. We are a relatively late entrant in this geography and are up against formidable competition - still it will be our endeavor to emerge as a leader and not merely as another player."

Nakul's career started with the then Hindustan Thompson Associates (JWT) and has included a stint at Trikaya Grey where he was EVP overseeing Mumbai, Bangalore and Ahmedabad.

In 1996 Nakul joined Publicis Ambience, then Ambience Advertising.

In 2003 he took over as president of Publicis in India overseeing both Publicis India and Publicis Ambience.

For the past two years, he has led the Publicis organisation in India as CEO.
