The Zentek Technology Group is teaming with ATI Technologies and
Skelmir at the International Broadcasting Convention (IBC) to demonstrate
how their partnership minimises development costs while delivering
state-of-the-art set-top solutions for digital television. The three
companies will demonstrate the interoperability of Zentek's MediaStack-MHP,
ATI's Set-Top Wonder Xilleon and Skelmir's CEE-J Virtual Machine
throughout IBC, which runs from 12-16 September 2003, in Amsterdam.
An official release states that the demonstration reflects how
Zentek's multimedia home platform (MHP) product family uses Linux
and employs open standards to cut costs for set-top box manufacturers.
The MediaStack-MHP design enables the delivery of enhanced digital
television applications and services via digital broadcast streams
in markets that comply with digital video broadcast (DVB) specifications.
Such markets are emerging rapidly in North America, Asia, Europe
and Australia, and Zentek is helping ensure that the hardware is
available to meet the growing demand. Zentek continues to develop
integrated client reference solutions that reduce MHP development
risk for digital set-top box and television manufacturers. The ATI
XILLEON solution for the digital television market is a highly integrated
package that is low cost yet powerful enough to drive the latest,
most-demanding interactive environments.
ATI has stated that its fourth-generation reference platform Set-Top
Wonder Xilleon has been created as a complete reference design for
consumer electronics manufacturers developing low-cost, high-performance
digital video consumer devices. This platform incorporates ATI's
XILLEON chipset, an advanced and highly integrated system-on-chip
suitable for a range of digital devices, including set-top boxes,
digital TVs, home media gateways and TV-enabled Web pads.
Skelmir has found that the Wonder Xilleon reference platform enables
a number of new OEM opportunities for them due to the single-chip
support for high-definition television. This ultimately leads to
quicker time-to-market for the company's customers. We are pleased
to work collaboratively with ATI and Zentek to provide cost-effective
and integrated interactive solutions for OEMs.
A DVB member Zentek develops software and provides engineering
services for the digital consumer electronics market with a focus
on two areas: digital television and mobile digital devices. The
company claims to have pioneered mobile device emulation tools that
shorten product development cycles. ATI Technologies design and
manufactures 3D graphics and digital media silicon solutions.
ATI claims to be the world's foremost visual processor unit (VPU)
provider and is dedicated to deliver leading-edge performance solutions
for the full range of PC and Mac desktop and notebook platforms,
workstation, set-top and digital television, game console and handheld
markets. With 2002 revenues in excess of US $1 billion, ATI has
more than 2,000 employees in the Americas, Europe and Asia.
Skelmir provides embedded solutions for hosting MHP, OSGi, browsers
and other interactive applications and industry standards on a variety
of platforms and devices. Skelmir's clean room technology arms customers
with the tools necessary for quick and reliable deployment of their
applications and services. Skelmir offers technology backed by a
team of experts dedicated to perfecting practical and market ready
embedded solutions states the release.
