The News Corp owned NDS Group which provides technology solutions
for digital pay TV has announced that it has licensed Expways
Binary XML solution, BinXML.
The move is a part of its ongoing commitment to provide state of
the art technology solutions to operators and broadcasters. NDS
plans to integrate and deploy BinXML into its range of head-end
systems and receiver middleware solutions.
The integration of BinXML into NDS headend and set-top box middleware
will enable data to be compressed, offering broadcasters and operators
the opportunity to deliver faster, richer and more bandwidth efficient
applications. Data intensive applications, such as the Electronic
Programme Guide (EPG), will, with the integration of BinXML, be
able to support the delivery of enhanced information to the customer
using less bandwidth, potentially reducing costs for broadcasters
and operators.
The Paris headquartered Expway provides software solutions for
managing XML transfer and processing dedicated to TV and mobile
networks. It draws its expertise from its proven and world-class
patented binary XML technology, BinXML, already adopted as the binary
XML transport format by MPEG-7, TV-Anytime and Digital Video Broadcasting
standards. Expway claims that its solutions are suitable for constrained
environments and devices such as digital TV set-top-boxes and mobile
phones.
